As a result of the devastating war in Sudan between the Sudan Armed Forces (SAF) and Rapid Support Forces (RSF), so far more than 11 million people have been forcibly displaced, of which more than 8 million internally displaced within Sudan and 3 million people seeking refuge in neighbouring countries. After Egypt, South Sudan is the second main destination for people fleeing Sudan. The crisis has affected South Sudan signifi- cantly, with more than 870’000 fleeing from Sudan into South Sudan. Around 50% of the new arrivals are women (30%) and girls (20%), 40% are children below the age of 18. With no sign of peace or halt in Sudan’s fighting, an average of 1’600 people every day continue to cross the border into South Sudan to es- cape the conflict in Sudan. The arrivals are expected to continue throughout 2025. Many of the returnees and refugees to South Sudan are highly vulnerable and arrive in underdeveloped ar- eas in the northern South Sudanese states of Northern Bahr el Ghazal, Unity and Upper Nile, thereby placing increased pres- sure on already strained resources. Even before Sudan’s con- flict erupted, South Sudan had been struggling with high rates of violence, consecutive years of mass flooding, and worsening inflation. The refugees and returnees most often bring little or nothing with them and are substantially dependent on interna- tional humanitarian organizations or the host communities.

The overall goal of the project is to provide humanitarian assis- tance and essential services for returnees and refugees from Sudan and South Sudanese host communities in Northern Bahr el Ghazal State. Around 2’500 beneficiary HHs will be targeted with distributions, comprising of around 70% refugee respec- tively returnee HHs (1750 HHs) and around 30% host commu- nity HHs (750 HHs).

• The first component (outcome) of the project aims at providing food and agricultural assistance to prevent famine and improve food consumption and dietary diversity for the most vulnerable among the refugee/returnee and host community populations. The most vulnerable returnees /refugees will benefit from food distributions (rice, cooking oil, sun flour, okra and groundnuts). 330 vulnerable farming HHs from the host communities will be selected for distribution of tools and seeds. Refugee/returnee families who have settled within the host community and who have land for farming will also be considered to benefit from this activity. About 10% of all the farmers (around 30 farmers) will be trained as trainers who will then visit the other farmers and disseminate the key messages of the training on kitchen gar- dening.
• The second component (outcome) aims at providing 500 HHs among the refugees and returnees with non-food items such as plastic sheets, buckets, soap, mosquito nets, plastic sheets (tarpaulin) and light blankets. Cooking utensils will also be distributed (pots, cups, etc.).
• For the third component (out- come) Titi Foundation intends to strengthen case management mechanisms, offer basic psychosocial (PSS) support, conduct safety audits and referrals in support of women and girls af- fected by GBV (gender-based violence).
