Caritas Switzerland launches emergency assistance in Ukraine

In view of the escalating situation in Ukraine, Caritas Switzerland has announced an emergency funding package totalling CHF 200,000. This, together with efforts by Caritas Ukraine, will provide people in eastern Ukraine with the most basic necessities.

The current war scenario further exacerbates the already precarious humanitarian emergency in eastern Ukraine. Mobile teams deployed by Caritas Ukraine are on the ground distributing essential food packages as well as heating briquettes and repair materials to protect people from the freezing cold. Caritas helpers are distributing medicines and issuing cash cards so that those affected can buy warm clothes.

At the time of writing, the greatest danger to the population is not bombs or projectiles, it is the winter cold – a question of survival for people in damaged homes and shelters. They are living in isolation and have neither enough food nor fuel. To ensure they get the help they need, Caritas Ukraine is in urgent need of support. Caritas Switzerland has announced an emergency funding package totalling CHF 200,000. Any intensification of the conflict will lead to Caritas Switzerland expanding its aid and support in the coming days and weeks.
