Caritas collects used textiles and shoes in good condition for humanitarian aid as well as for disadvantaged people in Switzerland and abroad.
What are we looking for?
We are looking for good-quality summer and winter clothes for women and men, children’s clothing and baby clothes, bed linen, table linen and towels, hats and shoes tied in pairs.
Where can you drop off these items?
Caritas Switzerland sorts your clothes donations in the Caritas clothing centre in Waldibrücke near Lucerne and makes them available for re-use. We will pick up the clothes and shoes from your home, but you can also drop them off directly at the clothing centre. There are also several Caritas collection containers in the greater Lucerne area.
In many other cantons, you can drop off clothing donations at the Regional Caritas Organisation near you or its Caritas second-hand shops. The Regional Caritas Organisations appreciate your donations. However, please contact them by phone in advance.
In addition, Caritas Switzerland and five other Swiss aid organisations have a 50 per cent share in the company Texaid. Texaid collects used clothes in containers and in door-to-door collections throughout Switzerland. The clothes are sold and processed. Texaid uses part of the proceeds to fund projects of charitable organisations in Switzerland, including Caritas Switzerland, and thus makes a considerable social contribution.
Food items and everyday necessities
Vegetables, fruit, bread, dairy products, durable goods, oil and sugar: To make sure that people experiencing poverty can buy food items at bargain prices, the Caritas Market Cooperative depends on donations of goods. Fresh and frozen products can also be accepted, since the Caritas Markets have cooling units and refrigerators in their sales outlets. Shower gels, shampoo, nappies, detergents, toilet paper and many other items for daily use round off the product range.
In some regions of Switzerland, Caritas collects furniture from your home and makes it available for people in need or for re-sale in its second-hand shops. Depending on the region, Caritas also offers house clearances.
Die The Regional Caritas Organisation near you will be pleased to provide you with information about donating furniture.
In-kind donations in disasters
Emergency relief in the event of a disaster must be fast and efficient. That is why, as a rule, we procure the necessary relief supplies close to the disaster region. It shortens the transport routes and strengthens the local economy.
Where needed, we supply clothing or quite specific goods from Switzerland to the disaster areas.
In the event of a disaster, we ask you to give your support in the form of cash donations. We make targeted use these for the most urgent needs.
