Enable Ethiopian Entrepreneurs through the Provision of Business Infrastructure and Equipment

Ethiopia has clearly defined strategies for economic development and job creation in the country. However, the lack of sufficient financial resources is an obstacle to the implementation of these strategies at regional level. In recent years, various disasters, such as prolonged and recurring droughts, locust plagues and the conflict in the Tigray region of northern Ethiopia, have resulted in available funds being diverted to mitigating the effects of these disasters. Financial resources are likely to remain low in the future, as many parts of Ethiopia will have to be rebuilt as a result of these disasters. This means that the needs of the people of Ethiopia for secure jobs and business support will continue to be inadequately met. In areas where agricultural land is not available, micro and small enterprises offer one of the most effective employment opportunities and future prospects for young people and entrepreneurs. This project aims to support the establishment and development of businesses, especially those run by young people and women, in order to strengthen their prospects for secure employment and economic independence.

The aim of the project is to accompany and support young people and women on their way to self-employment and in setting up their own businesses. The necessary infrastructure will be created through the construction of new business premises and workshops. This is intended to create new jobs that will help people to improve their living conditions in the long term.

The construction of 128 new business premises and workshops will provide micro and small enterprises with the opportunity to produce and sell their products, which will help access to markets and promote entrepreneurship. The implementation of the project aims at the following effects:

• Job creation: The new premises create jobs and secure income for households.
• Access to infrastructure: The provision of business premises enables companies to formalise their operations and operate in an organised framework.
• Capacity building: Training in financial education and business management improves the skills of entrepreneurs, leading to more effective and sustainable business models.
• Access to finance: The project facilitates access to credit and supports the development of business plans.
• Reduction of unemployment: By promoting self-employment reduces unemployment, especially among young people and women.

Local government representatives and staff from all six countries districts are actively involved in the project, which ensures support and acceptance by these authorities.
