Humanitarian crisis worsening

Your donation for the people of Venezuela

Following the severe earthquake in Venezuela, the situation remains highly uncertain. Numerous buildings have collapsed, public infrastructure has been destroyed, and tens of thousands of people are missing. Caritas Switzerland is allocating CHF 100,000 for emergency aid.

Venezuela has been struck by a devastating earthquake, with the capital Caracas and the northern coastal region particularly affected. The full extent of the damage, as well as the number of fatalities and injuries, cannot yet be determined. According to the authorities, tens of thousands of people are missing.

«The disaster has struck a region that was already severely affected. Even before the earthquake, many people were living in extreme poverty, facing food insecurity and lacking reliable access to healthcare. This devastating earthquake is now exacerbating the hardship.»Rafael filligerProgramme Director Venezuela, Caritas Switzerland

Caritas Switzerland is allocating CHF 100,000 for emergency aid in Venezuela. On the ground, Caritas Venezuela is coordinating initial relief efforts together with the international Caritas network. Collection points for drinking water, food and medical supplies have already been set up across the country to provide affected people with essential items.

Caritas Venezuela relies on a network of more than 40,000 locally based volunteers who can quickly reach those in need.
