Child sponsorship
Street children
Challenge
Abject poverty, neglect, violence in the family, hunger, trying to earn some money: there are many reasons why children end up on the street, defenceless and exposed to criminality. Many become victims of abuse and numb their pain with drugs or alcohol. Twelve-year-old child addicts are a sad reality in Latin America and worldwide. Street children need shelter, food, care and the prospect of a better future. This enables them to return to a normal life, go back to school and complete vocational training. Moreover, it is important to protect particularly vulnerable children so they don’t become street children in the first place.
Caritas-Hilfe
With the child sponsorship ‘Street children’, a variety of projects receive support:
- Protection of children and young people from violence, human trafficking and sexual exploitation in Bolivia
- Providing street children in Brazil’s big cities with shelter and food in Caritas centres
With just one Swiss franc per day, you enable street children to become part of society again, finish their schooling and undergo training. Become a child sponsor and give the children a real chance of a better future.
Support in Bolivia: For a better future
«My childhood was marked by conflict and beatings. To forget my sorrows, I took drugs. At the age of 12, I joined a youth gang and from then on I lived on the street. My mother took me to one of the Caritas centres. There, I found a temporary home and loving care and was able to deal with my past. Today, I no longer take drugs, I go to school, and look forward to a better future.»
